BMW’s M2 GTS

The current BMW M2 is praised as one of the best to drive cars to this day. It has a powerful 365 horsepower engine, which allows the car to achieve similar 0-60 times as its older brother, the M4.However there have been complaints amongst the hard core BMW fans who claim that BMW’s M2 is not a real M car since it shares too many similarities with its non m counterparts.

This may have very well led to BMW producing the performance line of the M2, the M2 GTS. BMW would make the GTS possible by removing a lot of sound insulating materials, and shaving off a lot of weight from the current M2. This will make the new variant limited, and much more hardcore. Carbon Fiber will also replace various aluminum parts of the car.

The engine will also be finely tuned, and produce a hefty amount more power than the current M2’s N55 engine. I am excited to see how many of the M2 GTS will be produced, if this report is true. It is certain that the price of the GTS will certainly require deep pockets in comparison to the current M2.

The Lexus RX, The Best Selling Luxury Car in the US

The Lexus RX has always been a good luxury car, and now it is even better. Better by a long shot. The inside is as quiet as a hidden vault, and the seats are as soft as a quality mattress. Many people decide to buy this car, and I am not surprised considering it has very little blunders.

Lexus RX 2016
Lexus RX 200t 2016

The Standard model is the RX350 which comes with a 3.5-liter V6 engine which produces a respectable 295 horsepower. It also gets 20 mpg in the city, and 28 mpg on the highway. The 450h has slightly more power at 308 horsepower, with mpg figures also higher at 31 mpg city and 30 mpg highway. With all this comes great reliability, always guaranteed by Lexus.

With various options, you can easily break the $50,000 barrier. However, it is also fairly easy to stay under that barrier. That is if one is careful with what options to add. That being said, the options are priced very reasonably in comparison to Lexus’s German competitors making the RX even more appealing to customers.

The Poseidon Tuned Mercedes-Benz E Class

The stock Mercedes-Benz E63 AMG produces a highly respectable 557 horsepower figure. However, this number is nothing compared to supercars such as a Ferrari, or Lamborghini. Poseidon tuning decided to change that, and place the Benz in the same league as a highly powerful supercar. The Poseidon-tuned E class produces an eye watering 1,006 horsepower.

Mercedes-Benz_E_200_Avantgarde_(W_212,_Facelift)_–_Frontansicht,_24._Oktober_2015,_Münster

This E-class has All wheel drive, and will hit 60 mph from standstill in just 2.8 seconds. The top speed of this speed demon is 218 mph. How is it possible that a tuning company can double a car’s insanely high power figure, which was hand built by some of the world’s top engineers? It all starts with upgrades to the turbochargers, and intercoolers.

There are also various other performance upgrades, which include performance spark plugs, a new limited slip-differential on each axle, bigger brakes, stiffer suspension, and wider tires. On the inside of the car, the back seats got removed to shave off a large amount of weight. On the outside of the car, a large amount of carbon fiber has been added on the hood, mirrors, spoiler, and various other locations to once again shave off weight. One thing is certain. This is an E-Class that we are hoping to see in the near future.

The Golf GTI: The car that started it all

The Volkswagen Golf GTI has been one of the longest running production vehicle of any car manufacturer in the world. The Golf was meant to replace the beetle when it first started its life but didn’t really end up doing so because it was so different. The car turned out to be a way bigger success than anyone would have ever imagined. The formula of the car just seemed to click; lightweight with a modest amount of power, front wheel drive and enough space in between for anyone to use it as a daily driver. The Golf has always been one of the best all rounders out there it pretty much started the “hot hatch” genre. With all that of course, everyone wanted a Golf GTI and honestly who hasn’t wanted a GTI at some point in their life. I definitely know I have!

golf-gti-clubsport-3 Picture 1

The GTI has evolved into one of the best driver’s car for anything under $35,000. The GTI comes with a 210 HP 2.0 turbo four cylinder engine attached to a six speed manual. A six speed automatic is optional, but who buys a GTI with an automatic gearbox? If you are in the market for a GTI, the Performance Pack is always a recommendation. It adds 10 more horsepower, upgraded brakes and a more sensitive limited-slip differential. So why is the Golf GTI so good? Well, when you take an efficient yet powerful engine and match it with precision handling, a well balanced chassis and everyday practicality, the GTI ends up equalling something that people desire. That being the ultimate driver’s’ car that can be used everyday all without breaking the bank.

Aston Martin’s Newest Hypercar the AM-RB 001

What’s the first thing that you think about when you hear the words Aston Martin? Elegance, luxury, comfort? Most people tend to see Aston Martins as these graceful grand tourers built in true British quality. But now Aston Martin has taken a different approach with its newest car. Code named the “Nebula” Aston Martin has teamed up with the extreme likes of Red Bull to create the masterpiece that is the AM-RB 001 (Aston Martin-Red Bull). Their goal? To create the fastest hypercar in the world. Designed by Red Bull’s legendary Formula 1 engineer Adrian Newey and Aston Martin’s chief designer Marek Reichman, the new AM-RB 001 has one thing in mind, speed. Pure and simple in design the AM-RB 001 will feature the legendary one-to-one power to weight ratio of 1000 kg to 1000hp, all powered by a naturally aspirated V12. Yep, you read that right, no hybrid propulsion or turbos. Just pure internal combustion at work.

aston-martin-am-rb-001 Picture 2.jpg

The Aston Martin AM-RB 001 has been designed with extreme detail. Every aspect of the car has been designed to be streamlined and light. The exhaust is mounted high up on the car to reduce the length of the pipes. The AM-RB 001 is designed with touch activated gullwing doors to help with reducing weight. The car is completely built out of carbon fiber and feature cameras instead of wind mirrors all with the goal of making the car as light and as aerodynamic as possible.

AM-RB-001 Picture 3.jpg

The first prototype of the AM-RB 001 will begin testing in late 2017 and will be delivered to customers starting early 2019. Of course the Aston Martin will not be cheap. The AM-RB 001 will be priced between $2.65 and $4 million depending on which options the customer chooses to have. One special option that the very wealthy customer can opt for is a training course for customers who are not familiar with this unique and type of vehicle. That being an essentially covered up formula 1 car.  The AM-RB 001 will be limited to 99 road cars and later on there will be a more track oriented version of the car that will be in even more limited numbers.

This car aims to crush lap records and the hopes and dreams of its competition. Ferrari and Bugatti you guys better watch your backs.

C63 AMG paired with the newest exhaust from Akrapovic

The Mercedes-Benz C63 AMG has always been that little car with the heart of a beast. The C63 started its life with a 6.2L V8 that produced 451 horsepower. The sound of that naturally aspirated V8 was something that was always special with the older C63s, but now with their new 4.0L Biturbo V8, that epic sound will surely be missed. Today most car companies opt for smaller engines and turbochargers for better efficiency and gas mileage. Personally I would rather a bigger engine with a better sound than a smaller turbocharged engine regardless if the smaller engines create more power.

gtspirit-zhamid-c63coupe-37.jpg

Without a doubt we know that turbocharging is the way of the future. It is more efficient, generates more power, but sacrifices sound. From Ferrari to Porsche to Mercedes and BMW, the companies that once praised the engines such as the naturally aspirated monster V8s from Mercedes and Ferrari and Porsche’s legendary flat six and BMWs V10s of the past, all have fallen victim to the turbocharging era. So does this mean that the intoxicating sounds of these engines will never be heard again? That’s not what the guys at Akrapovic seem to think.

aaaa.jpg

Because Mercedes’s 4.0L Biturbo V8 on the new C63 sounds rather quiet compared to the last generation, the geniuses over at Akrapovic have created a custom exhaust for the C63 with an active X connection and a new pair of exhaust valves. The new exhaust system also adds some power to the already very powerful C63. Around 8 horsepower and 21 lb-ft of torque are added to the car’s performance. Thanks to Akrapovic not only do we get more power out of the engine but we get that absolutely brutal sound that we know and love.

The Dodge Viper Gets In One Last Hurrah

The first Dodge Viper was produced in 1992 and set the very definition for an American muscle car. But since then, sales have not done very well, as FCA has announced that the Viper would go out of production in 2017. In fact, less than 1,000 units were sold in the last two years, despite the triumphant unveil of the latest Viper at the 2012 New York Auto Show (The SRT Viper). It was meant to signal Chrysler’s resurrection after its bankruptcy and acquisition by Fiat, but unfortunately, no such thing happened. Its sales just couldn’t keep up with the production costs.

Special Edition Dodge Vipers Pic 1

FCA CEO Sergio Marchionne stated that while he does have a lot of love for the car, the economic analysis just don’t add up. But to commemorate the car, Dodge has made five special editions – the 1:28 Edition ACR, the GTS-R Commemorative Edition ACR, the VooDoo II Edition ACR, and the Snakeskin Edition GTC. It seems that this final performance has really shown results, as all 100 units of the GTS-R Commemorative Edition ACR sold out within just two days. But believe it or not, this insane sellout speed was the the slowest of the sellouts. All 28 units of the 1:28 Edition ACR sold out within a mere 40 minutes.

Special Edition Dodge Vipers Pic 2

The rest of the special edition units all sold out within two days, and the same is expected to happen when the new ACR Snakeskin Edition comes out soon. 31 units will be produced and orders will become available come mid-July. You’ll have to act fast if you’re interested in this special edition momento.

First Fatal Crash By An Autopiloted Tesla

Minor incidents involving Teslas driven in Autopilot mode have been seen in the past, but we have just witnessed the first major incident of a vehicle with the semi-autonomous driving function engaged. The accident occurred on May 7th in Florida and involved Joshua Brown, a 40-year-old former Navy SEAL and technology entrepreneur from Ohio. Brown was driving a 2015 Model S, and as such, the National Highway Transportation Safety Administration has decided to start an investigation on 25,000 cars.

Tesla explained the situation as such: “What we know is that the vehicle was on a divided highway with Autopilot engaged when a tractor trailer drove across the highway perpendicular to the Model S. Neither Autopilot nor the driver noticed the white side of the tractor trailer against a brightly lit sky, so the brake was not applied. The high ride height of the trailer combined with its positioning across the road and the extremely rare circumstances of the impact caused the Model S to pass under the trailer, with the bottom of the trailer impacting the windshield of the Model S. Had the Model S impacted the front or rear of the trailer, even at high speed, its advanced crash safety system would likely have prevented serious injury as it has in numerous other similar incidents.”

Tesla Automated Model S Fatal Crash Pic 1.png

Details have been minimal so far, but this is what we know for sure. What was left of the Model S was found hundreds of feet from the initial crash site, with its roof completely sheared off. Such complete damage to the car as well as the momentum to carry the crashed vehicle that far from the initial crash site indicated a very high rate of speed during the collision. Tesla also claims that even the driver himself had not realized the tractor-trailer. Losing an object against the sky is possible, but a tractor-trailer is a very large object to miss – Tesla’s claim that even the driver himself did not see it coming is pretty hard to believe.

Tesla Automated Model S Fatal Crash Pic 2.jpg

At the moment, Tesla is facing a lot of scrutiny from regulators and other competing carmakers since the release of Autopilot in October. It was the first commercial semi-autonomous driving system that allows drivers to fully remove their hands from the wheel. To many in the auto industry, Tesla deployed this technology to the public way earlier than it should have. It will be interesting to see how this tragic accident affects Tesla as well as other carmakers working on autonomous driving technology. Accidents and fatalities were expected to happen as this new technology came out, but the potential benefits from the convenience may not be worth the inevitable costs. The ultimate question is how to continue developing the technology as responsibly as possible, and all eyes are on Tesla.

Ferrari’s Celebrates Its 70th Anniversary with 350 Special Editions

The first Ferrari was built in 1947, almost 70 years ago. Ferrari plans to celebrate that fact at the Paris Motor Show this October, with 350 special editions. Ferrari originally made the announcement to 100 owners and collectors in the Ferrari Cavalcade in Venice, Italy last weekend. Ferrari’s marketing and commercial boss Enrico Galliera states “The whole team at Maranello went back through the 70-year history of the company and tried to identify the most iconic cars of the past in the history of the company, the most iconic exteriors, the most iconic interiors”.

Ferrari's 70th Anniversary Special Editions Pic 1.jpg

Galliera then goes on to say “This means we are going to be producing and delivering 350 unique pieces. Every single car will be unique,” he added. This leads many to speculate that there will be 70 special-edition versions of the California T convertible, the 488GTB coupe, the 488 Spider, the F12berlinetta coupe, and the GTC4Lusso. Ferrari’s Sergio Marchionne himself stated at the Cavalcade closing dinner that he is working with Galliera to determine who receives which cars, and that it would be “probably the most difficult part of what I do”.

Ferrari's 70th Anniversary Special Editions Pic 2.jpg

It will definitely be a treat to see exactly which historically iconic cars Ferrari chooses to model its special editions on, and how they manage the immense Research and Development costs that we expect will come with such an endeavor. If the past is any indication of the future, however, these 350 cars will most definitely skyrocket in value the instant they come out of production.
