The Ford Mustang EcoBoost features a 2.3-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine brings forth 310 horsepower and 320lb-ft of torque. It’s supposed to be able to do a 0-60 test in 5.6 seconds. But can it actually. Recently, the beloved Mustang has shown some strange patterns on the test tracks at Motor Trend. It seems to be getting slower.
Recent tests have shown slower 0-60 tests as well as slower quarter-mile acceleration times. It can be argued that a perfect launch is difficult to achieve, but Motor Trend has analyzed the data vigorously, and just can’t find a reason for the discrepancies. The 2015 model’s 5.6-second 0-60 time was recorded in its 2015 first test. Later, Motor Trend’s sister publication Automobile tested another 2015 model and found that its time rose to 6.0 seconds. Even more surprisingly, a 2016 model with the same specs did the same run, but in 6.3 seconds.
Mustang owners everywhere are scratching their heads, wondering whatever happened to their beloved car. Motor Trend did get these tests with the proper 91-octane gas needed for the high pressures inside the engine, and temperature variations were accounted for. At first, Ford tried to divert Motor Trend’s attention away from these discrepancies but later said that it would look into the matter to see what was causing the slow down. We’re very curious to see exactly what’s going on.
